According to Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s official spokesman, the fact that the United States of America designated PMC Wagner as a transnational criminal organization has no practical significance for either Russia or the private military firm itself.
According to Peskov, “I don’t think that this is of practical importance either for our nation or PMC Wagner.”
Prior to this, John Kirby, the US National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, stated that the White House would designate PMC Wagner as an international criminal organization and impose additional penalties against it.
The Wagner Group is classified as a transnational criminal organization by the US Department of Treasury. Next week, according to Kirby, the US Treasury will impose additional sanctions against the private military company and its support network “on several continents”
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of PMC Wagner PMC, wrote an open letter to John Kirby.
“Dear Mr. Kirby, Could you please clarify what crime was committed by PMC Wagner?” the one-sentence letter reads.
»Russia cares less whether US calls PMC Wagner criminal group«
