Russia resumes missile attacks on Ukrainian civilians, killing dozens of people

Kharkiv, Ukraine — It was a bloody weekend in Ukraine. After a few weeks of relative calm in the air, the Russian military resumed its destructive aerial attack, either firing indiscriminately into civilian areas or targeting people’s houses to spread fear.

In a single devastating attack on a big apartment building in the city of Dnipro, dozens of people were killed and dozens more were wounded. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the search for survivors following the missile attack on Saturday lasted the entire weekend, with at least 30 persons killed and an equal number of others missing under the massive pile of rubble.

The youngest verified victim was a 15-year-old girl.

“Why are individuals dying? Why murder them?” Valentyna, a local resident, inquired as she and other survivors of the attack consoled one another.

When Russia launched two waves of missiles against the apartment complex, many individuals were inside.

On January 14, 2023, in Dnipro, central Ukraine, rescuers remove debris and hunt for survivors at an apartment complex destroyed by a Russian missile.

The entire weekend was filled with scenes of rescuers working day and night to locate survivors among the shattered concrete, glass, and steel. They would occasionally stop and listen for voices beneath the rubble.

Anastasia Shvets, age 23, was one of the fortunate individuals whose voice made it through the dust and noise to the rescuers. When the missile struck, she was in the toilet of her flat on the seventh floor.

Shvets had already lost her spouse in the struggle against Russia’s invaders on the front lines. Now, her home, located distant from the battlefield, has also been captured.

Katerina, another young building occupant, was rescued from the rubble more than 18 hours after the attack. But as each hour went, the likelihood of discovering additional survivors diminished.

For the Russian Ministry of Defense, the task was fulfilled. It was stated that Russia’s military objectives had been met with the weekend strikes.

As missiles bombarded Ukrainian cities, fighting intensified on the ground in the hotly disputed towns of Soledar and Bakhmut. Ukrainian military are fighting to maintain control of the nearby towns, which border Russian-occupied territory.

Wagner mercenaries from Russia conduct a brutal assault in eastern Ukraine at 02:18.

They are also fighting for their life against an onslaught of Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group, a private army led by a Putin supporter. With the prospect of parole upon completion of their service in Putin’s war against Ukraine, many of the warriors were recruited from Russian jails.

The devastating missile attacks over the weekend and the grueling war for the front-line towns in the eastern Donbas region provided Ukrainian officials with another tragic example to use when pleading for more backing and weapons from the United States and Europe.

As part of this support, the U.S. military began a new direct combat training program for Ukrainian forces in Germany over the weekend. General Mark Milley, chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, has stated that the goal is to have a battalion of approximately 500 Ukrainian troops completely trained and back on the battlefield within two months.

On Monday, Milley was anticipated to visit the training grounds in Germany to witness the efforts for himself. He told reporters accompanying him to Europe over the weekend that the training and additional weapons, like as U.S. Bradley armored battle vehicles, would be “really important for Ukraine to be able to defend itself.” for Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.

In addition to the United States’ training and equipment, Britain declared over the weekend that it will be the first NATO nation to send main combat tanks to Ukraine, providing 14 Challenger 2 tanks and other modern artillery.
