LOS ANGELES — This week, four sources with knowledge of the matter told Insider that Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia’s agents are having positive negotiations regarding a potential megafight.
Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy, told Insider on Tuesday from his downtown Los Angeles office that he is “moving towards that fight.”
Roberto Diaz, vice president of Golden Boy and matchmaker, informed us that Gomez “is in serious discussions” regarding the event and that “communication is present, which is a plus.”
A source close to Davis confirmed these discussions to Insider, stating that the fight was “very close.”
Another source stated that they would be astonished if a deal did not include a rematch provision, meaning that Davis, 27, and Garcia, 24, might fight again.
Davis versus Garcia would be one of boxing’s most anticipated matches.
Davis, with his thunderous blows, and Garcia, with his lightning-fast fists, are two of the best and most well-known boxers in America.
“It’s a beautiful fight tactically because you have a little bit of Mike Tyson in Gervonta, a shorter, stockier fighter with one-punch knockouts, versus the flash in Ryan with his speed and height,” Diaz remarked.
By scheduling them into a fight at this time, the sport will receive one of the sport’s best possible spectacles – at a time when it makes sense for them to box.
In addition, some of the most prominent and influential persons would promote the show from the stage.
Davis’ development into a bona fide attraction has been controlled by Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe and Floyd Mayweather, whilst Garcia’s development has been overseen by Golden Boy partners Oscar de la Hoya and Bernard Hopkins.
In interviews with Insider, organizers stated that they expect this event to break through to the general sporting consciousness in a way that has rarely occurred this year.
Diaz stated, “We must return to the days when Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns fought in their 20s, not their late 30s.” This battle must occur immediately; otherwise, it will be too late.
He continued, “I want to see the best battle the best, and we’ll find out if Ryan and Gervonta fight.”
There is always a way to start a major conflict.

Diaz stated, “Right now, it’s terrific for boxing and excellent for the boxers.” “It doesn’t matter if any of them loses because they are still young enough to learn and get better.”
Due to the fact that each athlete is supported by a competing promoter and broadcast partner, there may be complications associated with these contests.
Garcia is affiliated with both Golden Boy and DAZN. Davis, on the other hand, has the support of Mayweather Promotions, Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), and Showtime.
But despite promoter and broadcasting rivalries, Gomez is certain that any fight, including this one, can be made if all sides are prepared to talk.
Goez stated, “We have no trouble dealing with any promoters.” There is always a method to start major conflicts.
Diaz added: “I adore the pairing. I believe it would be a draw.”

The Georgia Athletic State Commission has placed a potential event for December 17 on its calendar, according to information obtained by Insider.
It indicates that the event will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, a place where Davis has previously performed and where he has shown to be one of the most popular boxing draws.
It is uncertain whether this date and venue are scheduled specifically for a Davis vs. Garcia bout, as Atlanta would undoubtedly be dominated by Davis supporters.
However, it is a reference to the possibility of Davis participating there at the end of the year.
With Garcia in the opposite corner, the only remaining issue is whether 2022 will conclude with its largest bang.
