Sally Field disclosed that she turned down two legendary romantic films over her career, and she has no regrets.
The 76-year-old star of “Steel Mongolias” was almost cast in the 1996 comedy “The First Wives Club” and the 1984 film “Romancing the Stone.”
The Oscar-winning actress recently confessed to People that “The First Wives Club” star Goldie Hawn urged her to join the film.
She stated, “Goldie really wanted me to do it.” Perhaps that would have been enjoyable, except everyone was so musical and I’m not.
And the film would not have been the same, added Field.
The film follows Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton as they reunited following the death of an old college buddy and plotted revenge on their cheating husbands.
Field decided not to co-star with Michael Douglas in “Romancing the Stone” because she felt the role was better suited for original actress Kathleen Turner.
The “Forrest Gump” alum remarked, “My hunch was that there is someone else who is superior. That individual was Kathleen Turner.”
“That Kathleen with the husky voice and lengthy legs. I mean, she’s still astoundingly talented. And she is so adorable. “No one else is like her,” she remarked.
In the action-adventure film, Turner portrayed a romance novelist who travels to Colombia to save her sister. Douglas portrayed a bird hunter who assists the author in her search.
Field will next be seen in “80 for Brady,” a sports comedy co-starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Rita Moreno.
The funny comedy follows four women on a road trip to see Tom Brady, one of their favorite football players who had announced his retirement.
Field mentioned also in her “People” interview that the 45-year-old former New England Patriots quarterback was “so nervous” to be on the film’s set.
“He was charming,” she declared.
“He was simply Tom Brady. He was a perfect human being.”
“He stated, ‘I’m so nervous,’” He felt uncertain about where to place his feet. “However, he was a natural,” Field said. “Athletes experience the same type of adrenaline as actors, with the exception that most actors do not fear losing limbs.”
