Salma Hayek acknowledges that she was dragged down the aisle.
In a recent interview, the actress compared her 2009 courtroom wedding to Francois-Henri Pinault to a “intervention.”
Hayek, 56, revealed in her Wednesday cover story for Glamour that she had no idea she was “getting married” on Valentine’s Day until her family became involved.
She recalled, “They just took me to the court.” “My parents and brother joined forces against me. I had a fear of getting married.”
The “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” actor remarked, “I was anxious…. I had agreed to the wedding, but I would not really attend or perform the ceremony.
Hayek was happy to discover that her relationship with Pinault did not feel “different” as husband and wife when she had “no choice” but to marry.
She and the 60-year-old businessman renewed their vows in front of additional family and friends in April 2009, and they now celebrate both dates as anniversaries.
The couple had been dating for three years before to their marriage and already had a 15-year-old daughter, Valentina.
Prior to their marriage, Hayek turned down two offers from Pinault.
The Oscar nominee told the Times of India in February 2021, “I am embarrassed to say how many times he had to ask me.” Three occasions! That was the greatest phobia I’ve ever conquered.
She urged other women who are “afraid” of legal relationships to confront their apprehensions in order to “feel free.”
Hayek continued by praising her husband at the time, gushing, “He is an incredible man, self-confident and feminist, who likes strong women and knows how to take care of them.”
She added that while she employs “power and determination” at work, at home she prefers “to have someone look after [her] and take the reins.”
