Despite retirement rumors, Sean McVay is present.
Sunday, following the Rams’ 19-16 overtime loss to the Seahawks, the team’s head coach had a cryptic statement when asked about his future.
McVay stated at his press conference, “I’m not thinking about that right now… I am present at the moment, and we will deal with the matter at a later time.”
This occurred after the Rams concluded the season with a 5-12 record, McVay’s first losing season since being hired by the Rams in 2017.
The defending Super Bowl champion Rams, including wide receiver Cooper Kupp, defensive lineman Aaron Donald, and quarterback Matthew Stafford, all dealt with various injuries throughout the season.
McVay and the Rams are currently engaged in an open communication over his future, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager reported after chatting with the head coach on Sunday.

McVay will allegedly take some time off to examine his future with the Rams potentially facing a rebuild.
Sunday’s Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer stated, “I don’t believe he’ll take a long time to make his decision.” When speaking with more people within the facility, they would be more astonished if he returned than if he left.
McVay is signed through the 2026 season with the Rams. If the 36-year-old coach were to leave Los Angeles, he would stay under contract.
McVay has also been linked to rumors that he will migrate into the broadcasting industry.
McVay stated on Friday that while TV offers are “flattering,” he is focused on his profession and has not questioned his desire to continue coaching despite the Rams’ disappointing season.

McVay addressed the broadcasting rumors by stating, “These are always going to be things that you kind of anticipate and expect to come up, because I haven’t hidden the fact that eventually, whenever that may be, that’s something I’ve been interested in.” “But… Want to be here right now, concentrate on that, and I’m here.”
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk claims that McVay does not want to participate in a rebuild in Los Angeles.
There is a growing belief that he will resign, Florio stated. “My impression is that it’s not due to fatigue or a desire to enter the television industry. He just doesn’t want to be a part of the multi-year reconstruction after winning the Super Bowl.
On December 19, the Rams were officially eliminated from postseason contention following a 24-12 loss to the Packers on “Monday Night Football.”
According to NFL.com, the loss marked only the fourth time in history that a defending Super Bowl winner was eliminated from playoff contention with more than one week remaining in the season.
