Floyd Shivambu, vice president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has endorsed former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe for the top job at the troubled power firm.
After the incumbent, Andre de Ruyter, announced his intention to quit in December 2022, Eskom posted a public position for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on February 5.

Shivambu turned to Twitter to advocate for the return of the previous CEO to the helm of the troubled power company.
He tweeted, “Apart from narrow factionalism, puppets, and capitalist greed, Brian Molefe (without political pressure and manipulation) has the capability, knowledge, and plan to stabilize the utility (Eskom) and provide the necessary electricity for South Africa’s stability.”
Additionally, a DA councillor was arrested for attempting to assassinate an EFF councillor.According to the advertisement, the incoming CEO would be responsible for “building an ethos of excellence and continuous improvement…” and “creating a high-performing organization with a culture that upholds the highest ethical and governance standards…”
