After a motorcycle accident, star of the reality TV show Outback Truckers, Paul ‘Sludge’ Andrews, is lucky to be alive, having suffered serious head injuries. The accident occurred 11 days ago, and the Perth-based truckie is still recovering in the hospital.
In addition to head injuries, Sludge sustained several broken bones, torn ligaments, and many bruises and abrasions. His fiancée Wendy wrote on Facebook on Tuesday night, letting fans know that he has a long road to recovery ahead of him. She also thanked everyone for their well-wishes.
Sludge has been hauling freight across Australia and New Zealand for more than four decades. He appeared on the popular reality TV series Outback Truckers, which first aired on 7Mate in 2012.
During the show, he was featured transporting fuel tanker road trains to mine sites across Western Australia using his signature purple Phantom truck. Sludge appeared in seasons 3 to 7 of the program.
In an interview with Daily Mail Australia last June, Sludge warned that the transport sector was being crippled by spiraling costs that could drive smaller operators out of the industry and leave supermarket shelves bare.
He noted that the cost of freighting stuff was going through the roof because the price of fuel was going up and up every day. As a result, transport costs were going up, and parts were becoming more expensive too, leading to higher prices at local shops.
