Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are aware of their CAF Women’s Champions League opponents for 2022. The drawings were place in Rabat, Morocco, at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre.
The Brazilians were placed in Group B alongside Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens, Egypt’s Wadi Degla, and the undetermined CAF WCL UNIFFAC Qualifiers champions for this year’s championship.
Group A consists of AS FAR from Morocco, Simba Queens from Tanzania, Green Buffaloes from Zambia, and Determine Girls FC from Liberia.
Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala was pleased with the conclusion of the draw, stating, “This is a fascinating draw, and we are pleased with our opponents. In the group stage last year, we faced a Moroccan team, ASFAR, and a Nigerian team, Rivers Angels. This year, we face an Egyptian team, Wadi Degla, and another Nigerian team, Bayelsa Queens. This indicates that we are playing teams whose football style we are familiar with. Hopefully, we shall soon discover who the UNIFFAC champion is. We are pleased with the outcome of the draw on the whole.”
Sundowns Ladies created history by winning the inaugural edition of the best women’s championship on the African continent. Importantly, Kappa’s team won the competition without surrendering a single goal in enthralling fashion.
Kappa believes that Banyana Ba will have to rely on their expertise to defend their title against some of the best women’s teams on the continent.
“We anticipate pyrotechnics in the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League. Thus, we must rely on our experience to keep the bragging rights associated with last year’s tournament victory. We are eager to continue making history on the continent and cannot wait to get started. For us to become champions of Africa once more, we must face greater opponents, and we are prepared to do so, Kappa concluded.
All season long, the Sundowns Ladies have excelled domestically. The Brazilians have amassed 45 points through 15 victories in 16 contests. Banyana Ba Style has scored 72 goals, the most in the league, while conceding only nine goals, the top defense in the league. Additionally, Kappa’s charges have a remarkable goal differential of +63.
On Sunday, September 18th, Sundowns Ladies return to Hollywoodbets Super League play against University of the Western Cape (UWC).
