A teenage girl in the United Kingdom died after spraying aerosol deodorant in her bedroom and inhaling the fumes, causing her distraught parents to ask for more prominent warning signs on the items.
In May of last year, Giorgia Green, 14, experienced a heart arrest and died after inhaling the fumes in what her parents believe was a preventable catastrophe.
“People are unaware of how hazardous the contents of these tins might be. Paul, the girl’s father, told BBC that he wants no one else in the country or the globe to experience what his family has.
He continued, “We don’t want our daughter’s death to be in vain.”
All aerosol deodorants have a warning to “keep out of reach of children,” but Giorgia’s parents believe the warning notice on the canister was small.
In response, the British Aerosol Manufacturers Association stated that deodorants have “very clear warnings.”
According to Giorgia’s father, the adolescent found solace in spraying the deodorant because it was a product her mother used and smelled like her.
Giorgia was autistic, per her father, and she enjoyed spraying deodorant on her blanket before enveloping herself in it.
“The aroma induced a sense of calm in her,” he explained. My wife would spray this deodorant on herself whenever she felt the slightest bit of anxiety, and it would provide her with a sense of peace.
The girl’s older brother was the one who discovered her in her room with the door wide open and unconscious. A coroner ruled that the cause of her death was “undetermined but consistent with aerosol inhalation.”
Her parents created a fundraising website to raise awareness about the dangers of hazardous chemicals present in such items.
“Many individuals have inquired what we can do to assist. “Our primary objective is to raise awareness of the dangers of aerosol products in the home,” her parents wrote.
“This could possibly prevent further tragedies from occurring. Now, our biggest hope is that the loss of our dear Giorgia was not in vain.In 2016, another British adolescent infatuated with spray-on deodorant died in the same manner.
Butane, the primary component of the deodorant, has been connected to several deaths in the United Kingdom.

Police discovered 16-year-old Thomas Townsend unconscious in his bedroom at a children’s home in Folkestone, Kent. In the room, authorities discovered 42 empty aerosol cans of deodorant, hairspray, and other goods.
Butane gas inhalation was determined to be the cause of his death.
