To help residents in riverine communities throughout the state improve their standard of living, the Edo State Government has promised to provide high-quality healthcare, security, and other infrastructure.
The assurance was given by Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, who is the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Edo State, during a courtesy visit by the Ofunama National Executives at the Government House in Benin City.
He promised that the state would fund high-quality medical facilities for people living in riverine communities, such as Ofunama in Edo State’s Ovia South-West Local Government Area.
Obaseki noted, “A standard primary healthcare centre is coming to Ofunama, as the riverine areas will be given quick attention as regard quality healthcare services in the state to check mortality rates.
“We are trying to recalibrate our primary healthcare system. We are keen on providing world-class medical services in the state, especially in our primary healthcare centres to meet the healthcare needs of the people.”
In order to improve coordination for the deployment of police officers to the police station in Ofunama, which was constructed with community support, the governor further stated that the state government will meet with the State Commissioner of Police. He added that the action will help to reduce insecurity in the region.
“Our waterways across the country are poorly secured but we want to assure you that the government takes the security of Edo people seriously and as such, will address the issue of security in our waterways,” he said.
According to him, “We know the value of a flow station in the area. We will write to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to allow the flow station to be effectively put into use. We will follow it up with a visit and action will be taken.
“The Edo Ministry of Infrastructure will design the road. You will get results on that too. We are working on getting the community a jetty just like other riverine communities in the state.”
