The new Amphitheater at Volunteer Park is opening after seven years and countless volunteer hours spent on outreach, planning, design, and fundraising. This is the first brand-new structure to be added to this iconic park in fifty years, and thanks to its specially made resilient stage floor, it is the only open-air venue in the area that can accommodate professional dance performances.
To serve our community’s needs, the outdated concrete and brick former amphitheater required significant renovations. The award-winning architectural team at ORA created a brand-new facility that was thoughtfully planned under the direction of Volunteer Park Trust.
The new Amphitheater features resilient stage flooring for performances, full ADA accessibility, a roof, all-gender restrooms, storage space, and an actors’ dressing room. The stage’s back wall will swing back when it is not being used for performances, transforming it into a warm, covered pavilion.
The non-profit Volunteer Park Trust was founded with the goal of preserving and enhancing this legendary park designed by the Olmsted Brothers for present-day use and future generations.
