The United Kingdom and Malaysia are celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee and Her Majesty’s 96th birthday in June.
Queen Elizabeth II became the first British monarch in history to accomplish Platinum Jubilee – 70 years of reign and service – on February 6, 2022. Large-scale celebrations, on the other hand, are planned for June to take advantage of the warmer weather. It also happens on the second Saturday in June, which is The Queen’s formal birthday.
The Trooping the Colour and Horse Guards Parade, as well as concerts, street parties, and pageants, will kick off the formal celebrations in the UK on June 2nd. Over 70,000 Big Jubilee Lunches are anticipated to take place at homes and local village halls across the United Kingdom over the Jubilee weekend, with over 10 million people expected to attend.
In Malaysia, Rotary Malaysia District 3300 is hosting a dinner event on June 2 to commemorate The Queen’s 70-year reign and service by lighting the Platinum Jubilee Beacon. The Platinum Jubilee Beacon will be lit alongside more than 2,800 other Platinum Jubilee beacons throughout the world.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian British Society is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee Charity Golf Day, and British armed forces located at Butterworth Airbase are hosting a garden party with staff and families from all Five Power Defence Arrangements member nations. Later this month, the British High Commission will throw a formal reception.
The Queen expressed hopes in Her Majesty’s Accession Day address back in February, according to His Excellency Charles Hay, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, that the Jubilee festivities would provide a chance to bring family and friends, neighbors and communities together. She also reaffirmed her 1947 promise to devote her life to service.
According to Hay,
Throughout her 70-year reign, The Queen has been a symbol of continuity, the constant figure in an ever-changing Britain. Her unwavering devotion to service to the people in the UK and the Commonwealth has made her one of the most recognisable and respected persons in the world.
The Queen has visited Malaysia three times. She made her inaugural visit to Malaysia in 1972, attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Langkawi in 1989, and she attended the closing of the XVI Commonwealth Games in in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.
In addition, the High Commissioner will plant a tree at the High Commissioner’s Residence as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy program and to leave a physical legacy of the Jubilee celebrations.
