John is a director of a multinational corporation, a former diplomat, and a merchant banker. In addition to advocating responsible governance and serving as a trustee and chair in the arts and higher education, he has extensive commercial expertise in these fields.
He serves as a trustee for Cardiff University, the Museum of the Home, the Institute of Cancer Research, and the LSO Endowment Fund.
He serves as an advisor to the Colakoglu Group, British Academy, Trinity College, Corestone, AG, and Cambridge’s Centre for Geopolitics.
He served as The Economy Bank, NV’s chairman, a board member for Kinnevik, AB, and the deputy head of Cambridge University’s Council.
He was also a director of TT electronics plc, Tele2 AB, Questair Inc, Carnegie AB, and three publicly traded investment funds. He worked for Lazard and Baring Brothers as a managing director.
The Cabinet Office’s Governance Code on Public Appointments was followed in making this interim appointment. The Commissioner for Public Appointments oversees the process. The Trustees of the Museum of the Home are not compensated.
According to the Government’s Governance Code, every substantial political engagement conducted by an appointment in the previous five years must be declared. This is described as holding office, giving public speeches, making a recordable donation, or running for office. John Shakeshaft has not declared any activity.
