Even superstars like Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna — not to mention the genius once known as Kanye West — can make us reconsider how much we adored them in the past.
Here are the five worst songs released in 2022 by musicians who could and could have done better.
1. RuPaul, “Smile”
We adore you, Ru, as much as you’ve taught us to adore ourselves, but this auto-tuned abomination is so unbefitting of you. We’d rather listen to “Supermodel (You Better Work)” on repeat for twenty-four hours than this grouchy disgrace.
“Love of My Life” by Jennifer Lopez.
Cheers to The Bronx’s J.Lo for marrying the love of her life, Ben Affleck, in 2022, but there must be better tunes befitting a diva of her caliber available for purchase. This depressing song from the “Marry Me” soundtrack will convince you to be single forever.
Jennifer Lopez has rediscovered love with her new husband Ben Affleck, but the search for quality new music continues.
This “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” song was a weak imitation when we needed beats, Rihanna!
In 2022, it was difficult to listen to any music by Ye. Separating the creator from the work of art was nearly impossible. The fact that this “Donda 2” song aspired to be another “Empire State of Mind” just makes it more painful.
The song “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick” by Lady Gaga did not reach her greatest heights.
It’s not that “Hold My Hand,” the 1980s power ballad from “Top Gun: Maverick” that is certain to win the Oscar for Best Original Song next year, is so horrible. It makes “Shallow,” Gaga’s Oscar-winning “A Star Is Born” song, appear much more profound. And it certainly fails to captivate us as Berlin did on the original “Top Gun” soundtrack in 1986.
