Instead of having a king and queen for this year’s Homecoming, a High School chose to have two “royalty” representatives.
At Hinsdale High School in Darien, Illinois, where more than 800 students cast their votes for the two winning men, both of them afterwards requested the title of King.
Chris Jasulca, a representative for Hinsdale South, said that as part of the new procedure, which refers to them as royalty, they are asked whether they like to be referred to as king, queen, or royalty.
He described the procedure and said that a student group and faculty sponsors prepare homecoming preparations.
Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors selected two individuals from each class to be a member of the homecoming court before homecoming.
Ten individuals from the senior courses were chosen. In a subsequent all-school meeting, the student body as a whole chose two senior court members to represent royalty, according to Fox 32.
The spokeswoman said that the 16 court members had examined the voting procedure in advance of the assembly.
The committee at the school believes that the method enables pupils to all be part, he said, adding that they had no queries or worries.
It does so when nearby schools, including Riverside-Brookfield High School, embrace similar ideas.
