Three Dutch soldiers were shot and injured early Saturday in downtown Indianapolis, police said

Authorities said three Dutch soldiers were shot and injured early Saturday in downtown Indianapolis after what local police suspect was a disturbance outside the hotel where they were staying.

The incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. Eastern time in the entertainment section of Indianapolis. Officers discovered three guys with gunshot wounds and transported them to surrounding hospitals, according to Indianapolis police.

The Dutch defence ministry said that one soldier was in critical condition and the other two were conscious, however the Indianapolis police reported that two of the soldiers were in grave condition and one was stable.

The ministry said that the three soldiers were from the Commando Corps and were in Indiana for training when they were shot in front of their hotel during their leisure time.

According to Indianapolis police, an incident between the three victims and another person or persons led to the shooting.

The ministry said that the relatives of the shooting victims have been notified, while Indianapolis police continue their investigation.

No arrests have been made.

The Indiana National Guard said that the troops were conducting training at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, a 1,000-acre (405-hectare) site located around 40 miles (65 kilometres) southeast of Indianapolis. The Guard said in a statement that the facility is used by the Department of Defense and “other allies” for training purposes.

“The Dutch soldiers visited Indianapolis at the end of their duty day. Our thoughts and prayers are with the soldiers and families during this difficult time,” the Guard said, WXIN-TV reported.
