A TikToker has earned millions of views for a video in which she recreates the dress worn by Ana de Armas at the Venice Film Festival with household objects.
On September 11, the TikTok user @angelicahacks uploaded a video in which she re-created de Armas’ outfit and accessories out of pink waste bags and fruit-packaging materials.
According to Hello magazine, the final product has a similar silhouette and hue to de Armas’ pink halter-neck gown, which was custom-made for the premiere of the actor’s new film “Blonde.” Dresses by Louis Vuitton can cost upwards of $10,000.
De Armas, who portrays Marilyn Monroe in the film, also sported a necklace from the company Only Natural Diamonds, for which she serves as a global spokesperson. The TikToker replicated the work with apple net packing, a slice of garlic, and a black ribbon.
The video earned over 132,000 likes and over 2.6 million views. Numerous responses lauded the TikToker’s inventiveness. Some commenters stated that the TikTok version of the garment appeared “better” than the designer version, whilst others stated that her usage of material made the clothing appear more “futuristic” and “unique.”
Angelica Hicks, whose name is listed on TikTok, has over 86,000 followers and regularly receives millions of views for her videos in which she recreates legendary fashion looks by celebrities and designers with inexpensive home objects.
On August 30, she uploaded a video of herself duplicating Taylor Swift’s Oscar de la Renta silver VMAs dress. The video was viewed 1,700,000 times.
A previous video utilizing shoelaces and a cotton jumpsuit to recreate Kim Kardashian’s black satin jumpsuit had 3.3 million views.
In commemoration of New York Fashion Week, which took place from September 9 to September 14, the designer created her own rendition of a 2015 Carolina Herrera outfit using tape and toilet paper. The video was seen almost seven million times.
According to Vogue, De Armas’ dress was a nod to the legendary white gown worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1954 film “Seven Year Itch,” in which her gown rises up while she stands on a subway grate.
On her Instagram account, De Armas posted a photo of herself wearing the outfit with the statement, “I will never forget this night. Thank you for your magnificent energy and support. Love!”

Deadline stated that De Armas attended the premiere of “Blonde” alongside Bobby Cannavale, who portrays Marilyn Monroe’s second husband Joe DiMaggio, Adrien Brody, who portrays Monroe’s third husband Arthur Miller, and Julianne Nicholson, who portrays Monroe’s mother. The film is a dramatized account of Marilyn Monroe’s life and rise to fame, based on the same-titled Joyce Carol Oates novel.
Previously, De Armas was most recognized for her roles as Paloma in “No Time to Die” and Marta Cabrera in “Knives Out” by Rian Johnson.
