Today Is Saint Valentine’s Day

The International Community is observing today as the feast of Saint Valentine.

 

The day which is also known as Valentine’s Day originated as a Christian feast, aimed at honouring the early Christian martyr named Saint Valentine.

 

Let’s now join Emmanuel Okoh  reports that according to historical record, the day derived its name from a famous Saint Valentine who lived in Rome in the third Century AD.

 

Since then, Valentine’s Day has become a global celebration when people show affection to one another by sending messages of love, cards, flowers or even chocolates to express their feelings of loves particularly to their spouses.

 

In the present-day society, people are full of expectations especially couples, those in one relationship or the other, orphanages, destitute homes, prison inmates among numerous others.

 

The Director Institute of Theology Paul University Awka, Venerable Dr Rex Kanu views Valentine’s Day as a day people show love to the less privileged, Community Children’s Home, those who are suffering like the victims of Boko-Haram.

 

For a seamstress, Mrs. Oghenemine Ifeanyi, Valentine’s Day is a day people celebrate friendship and sending of love and affection to partners.

 

A corps member, Mrs. Joy Anosike said she plans to visit the orphanage homes and less privilege accompanied by her husband with some food items.

 

On her part, Miss Favour Obi described Valentine’s Day as a day people come together to celebrate their loved ones and people around them, and advised youths to be very careful on that day.
