Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest allies have reportedly threatened to detonate a nuclear missile on the Yellowstone supervolcano in the United States.
The threat was made by Vladimir Solovyov, a Russian military expert and supporter of the Kremlin, during a television appearance on February 23.
Solovyov argued that the RS-28 Sarmat missile, also known as Satan II, which measures 35.5 metres in length, could be used to deliver multiple nuclear warheads, making it impossible for the United States to defend against them.
He added that the supervolcano, which has erupted three times in the past 2.1 million years, poses a significant threat to the US, and a nuclear missile strike would make the resulting devastation even more catastrophic.
