Stellenbosch released a statement confirming that midfielder Oshwin Andries tragically passed away on Saturday, hours after claiming a 2-1 victory over Chippa United.
Last year, Andries guided the Diski team to the DStv Diski Challenge Championship. He had represented South Africa at the young level and was regarded as an exceptionally skilled and promising player.
Andries reportedly died of stab wounds on Saturday in Cape Town, and in an interview with Independent Media, his brother Lee-Irwin Andries disclosed the horrific circumstances behind his passing.
“He was making a joke, which angered the suspect,” Lee-Irwin explained. He repeatedly stabbed my brother from the side.
Captain Nowonga Sukwana, a police spokeswoman, said further that the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate occurrence are currently under investigation.
“He was treated for stab wounds, released, and then taken to Paarl hospital by his family.” His stabbing’s circumstances are still under investigation.”
According to additional accounts, Andries was apparently stabbed during the altercation at the end of January, and he ultimately succumbed to complications related to the injuries.
Apparently, the child attended Stellenbosch’s Tuesday and Wednesday practice sessions without receiving any training.
A source told TimesLive that he was “walking around and seemed in good health,” and that the “wound appeared superficial
