Transnistria Plans for Attack

On March 9, 2023, Vitaly Ignatiev, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the unrecognised Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), also known as Transnistria, stated in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel that the authorities are developing plans in case of an attack by Ukraine. Ignatiev explained that the plans would depend on different scenarios.

The statement came after law-enforcers prevented an assassination attempt on the head of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, which the Ministry of State Security of the PMR attributed to the Security Service of Ukraine.

Krasnoselsky previously described the situation on the border with Ukraine as tense on February 27. He reassured people that there was no immediate danger. Following the incident, Russia urged the Moldovan authorities to refrain from anti-Russian rhetoric and show restraint towards the unrecognised republic.

The situation in the region remains highly volatile, and tensions between Ukraine and the PMR have been ongoing for several years. As of March 9, 2023, the PMR continues to develop plans to address any potential attacks from Ukraine.
