Trey Wingo, the former ESPN host, stands by his viral tweet that Aaron Rodgers is set to join the Jets and says that the star quarterback is not holding up the trade, which may not be complete until next week.
Wingo tweeted on Tuesday that the four-time MVP would be heading to New York, and the deal has been agreed upon.
Wingo believes that Jets fans should be patient, and the transaction will occur eventually, even if it drags into next week.
He noted that the deal between the Packers and Jets for Rodgers had been essentially in place since last Friday, and he isn’t sure what the hold-up is.
Wingo said that it isn’t Rodgers who is delaying the deal and that he’s ready to go.
The perception outside what Wingo has reported is that Rodgers has yet to decide if he wants to play for the Jets, stay with the Packers, or retire after 18 seasons in Green Bay.
Rodgers is scheduled to appear on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, but it’s unclear if he has an announcement planned or how in-depth he will address his playing future.
Wingo believes that both sides may want to “button everything up” before a blockbuster trade is made.
He has a few theories about why it’s taking so long for Rodgers to join the Jets, including both sides wanting to do things correctly.
The Packers want to thank him for his years of service, and the Jets want to make sure they get it right.
He reassured Jets fans that their patience will be worth it after Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo, and even Mike White have all signed elsewhere.
Wingo said, “Aaron Rodgers is going to be the quarterback of the New York Jets in 2023.”
