Newly released text messages reveal that former Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson considered leaving the company over their coverage of the 2020 Presidential Election.
Carlson and fellow Fox News anchor Bret Baier expressed their concerns over the network’s early but accurate call of Arizona going to Joe Biden.
In the text messages, Carlson complained about Trump’s election-fraud lies and said he wished he knew where to run because “he’ll die here.”
The text messages were uncovered as part of a defamation case filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News.
The voting machine company had filed a $1.6 billion lawsuit against the network for ‘giving life’ to a ‘manufactured storyline’ about voter fraud after the 2020 election.
Dominion’s lawyers uncovered texts in which Fox hosts and journalists seemed to acknowledge that the fraud claims were not true or farfetched, but gave them airtime anyway.
Since Carlson’s exit last month, Fox News said that they had over 40 new advertisers move into the hour since they launched Fox News Tonight.
Jeff Collins, executive vice president of ad sales at the media giant, said: “We have seen new advertisers come in, and new demand.”
The text messages were revealed as a defamation case was filed against Fox News by Dominion Voting Systems, who filed a $1.6 billion lawsuit against the network for ‘giving life’ to a ‘manufactured storyline’ about voter fraud after the 2020 election.
Carlson left his Fox News show on April 23, with no official reason given for his departure.
The decision was made six days after Fox settled with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million.
The rumors regarding Carlson’s departure from Fox News continue to emerge, including claims over his text messages that emerged in the wake of the lawsuit, which included him claiming he hated Trump.
It has also since emerged that Carlson sent a text message the day after the January 6 storming of the Capitol, in which he recalls seeing a mob of three white men attacking an ‘Antifa kid’ and wanting the victim to be killed.
Fox News has pointed to letters sent to Dominion last week calling for an investigation into how these text messages were leaked to the media.
