During yesterday’s address by Volodymyr Zelensky to the British Parliament, Dominic Raab appeared to give Sir Keir Starmer the “death stare.”
As he conversed with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak prior to the Ukrainian president’s stirring address to the House of Commons, the Justice Secretary was seen staring attentively at the Labour leader.
In the short film, a gloomy Mr. Raab appears to be paying close attention to Sir Keir and Mr. Sunak’s conversation while licking his lips.
On Twitter, the video has generated hundreds of comments and retweets, with viewers persuaded that Mr. Raab was ‘enraged’ by the appearance of his political competitor.
Alastair Campbell, former spin doctor for Tony Blair, joked, “If Keir is found in a ditch tonight, Raab better have a good alibi.”
Another joked, “Raab looks like he’s about to eat Starmer,” while a third said the cabinet minister reminded them of Greg Davies in The Inbetweeners.
One Twitter user referred to Mr. Raab’s fierce expression as a “Vulcan death stare,” while another joked, “Starmer spills Raab’s beer.”
One viewer merely inquired, “Is Dominic Raab okay?” while another commented, “Wow, Dominic Raab got REALLY angry with Keir Starmer, didn’t he?”
This week, when the PM announced an unexpected cabinet change, Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab retained his position as Justice Secretary.
It occurred amid calls for his suspension as an inquiry into claims of bullying against him continued.
The MPs had assembled to hear from Mr. Zelensky, who was in London for a ceremony-filled day during which he also saw King Charles.
On what was only his second abroad journey since the start of the war, he gave a historic address to both the lower and upper houses of parliament while wearing his typical green fatigues.
During a portion of his address, he pleaded for fighter jets to assist in the defeat of Vladimir Putin’s forces, stating, “I appeal to you and the world… for combat aircrafts for Ukraine, wings for freedom.”
This is a long-term solution, not a short-term capability, according to the Prime Minister’s office.
Later, during a press appearance with Mr. Zelensky and in front of a British tank, the Prime Minister declared that “nothing is off the table” for Ukraine, including fighter-combat aircraft.
He stated, “Of course they are part of the conversation,” but refrained from making a firm commitment to deploy fighter jets.
The Russian Embassy in London has since strongly warned the UK against supplying the warplanes, saying Britain would bear responsibility ‘for another twist of escalation and the ensuing military-political consequences for the European continent and the entire world’.
