The Commissioner for Works (Urban and Highways) Mr Noel Omodon has task the construction company handling Sector ‘A’ of the Ughelli/Asaba Road Dualization project to expedite action on the road before the rains commence.
Mr Omodon gave this directive yesterday while on an inspection tour the project.
The commissioner, speaking to newsmen at the end of the tour, explained that his visit was to ascertain the problems causing the slow pace of work on the project.
He gave an assurance that his ministry would work hand in hand with the contracting firm to ensure that the factors causing the delay of the project were surmounted and the project delivered within the stipulated timeframe.
Earlier, the project manager, Engr Abdallah Aoude, said the company is aware of the importance of delivering the road project as at when due hence has moved machines and equipment to site so as to expedite action on the road project.
According to Engr Aoude, the only problem the company has was getting laterite sand, saying that every effort was being made to buy a place to excavate for laterite.
“We have moved almost 56 equipments to site, mobilised staff but the problem we are facing is getting laterite sand for filling. Our community Liaison Officer has been moving around the communities around here to get a place to buy, but we have not succeeded,” the site engineer added.
He assured that once they were able to get a place to buy, the project would be completed and delivered in May this year.
