It has been confirmed that Mae Muller, a 25-year-old English singer, will represent the United Kingdom at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. Mae will perform her track, ‘I Wrote A Song’, in Liverpool on Saturday, May 13.
The news was announced on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show by Zoe Ball and Rylan Clark. Mae had known for two months that she would represent the UK at Eurovision and expressed her excitement by saying, “That has been on my lips, in my brain and in my soul.”
Mae supported girl group Little Mix on their 2019 tour and appeared in a music video for popstar Mika’s hit Grace Kelly in 2007 when she was just 10 years old. Her musical inspirations include Gwen Stefani, Florence and the Machine and Lily Allen.
Mae follows in the footsteps of Sam Ryder, who represented the UK in 2022 with his song ‘SPACEMAN’ and achieved the highest score the country has ever had in the contest.
Eurovision is being hosted this year by Graham Norton, Hannah Waddingham, Mel Giedroyc, Scott Mills, Rylan Clark, Alesha Dixon, Sam Quek, Ukranian singer Julia Sanina and Ukranian presenter Timur Miroshnychenko.
Due to the ongoing war, Ukraine, which won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022, could not host the following competition, and the UK is hosting the event this year on behalf of Ukraine.
The tickets for this year’s Eurovision went on sale on Tuesday, March 7, and all tickets to the grand final were sold out in 90 minutes.
The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest airs on BBC One on Saturday, May 13.
