Unknown man kills off-duty officer at a barbershop in Sandton


A warrant officer who had finished his shift was having his hair trimmed at a barbershop in Sandton when he was fatally shot.

It is common knowledge that the Sandton Police Station-based officer of the South African Police Service visited the barbershop on Friday, August 26. According to reports, an unidentified individual approached the officer, fired several bullets, and then ran away from the area.

Robert Netshiunda, a spokesman for the South African Police Service (SAPS), has confirmed that the police are looking into a possible murder. According to Netshiunda, the suspect approached the officer from behind, cursed at him, and then opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.

The officer was pronounced deceased at the site of the accident. According to EWN’s reporting, there have been no arrests made in connection with this incident.

“Following an incident in which an off-duty police officer was shot and died at Bramley View, authorities are now conducting an investigation into a possible murder case. According to the reports, an unknown male approached the officer from behind, began cursing at him, and then fired two rounds at him before fleeing the scene. According to Netshiunda, the cop was pronounced deceased at the site of the incident.

During this period, it was reported that a 45-year-old police officer was discovered shot five times with his own handgun while he was sleeping in his bed. Within twenty-four hours of his death, the person who is suspected of killing him was taken into custody. According to the spokesman for the police department, Brigadier Selby Mohlala, the body of the officer, Mandlenkosi Happy Thwala, was discovered at his residence in Gedlembane, Pienaar. He had been brutally killed.

“When the police arrived, they discovered him lying still on his bed with obvious gunshot wounds all over his body. According to the Brigadier, he was shot five times with his service pistol, two times in the head and three times in his upper body. “He was shot five times with his service handgun,” stated the Brigadier.

Mohlala said that a medical service was sent to the location, but sadly, the cop was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. The officer was assigned to the Kabokweni SAPS station throughout their career.
