Many Americans reportedly still hold a “grudge” towards Queen Camilla, according to Deborah Roberts, the Senior National Affairs Correspondent for ABC News.
Roberts claimed that a lot of Americans were enamoured with Princess Diana’s charm and grace and have not yet moved on from her death in 1997.
She added that while many Americans pretend to not care about the monarchy, they secretly have a fascination with everything royal.
Roberts travelled to London to cover various events related to the royal family, such as Harry and Meghan’s wedding, the Platinum Jubilee, and the Queen’s funeral.
Roberts claimed that Americans still associate Prince Charles with breaking Princess Diana’s heart and believe that Camilla will be taking Diana’s place as queen next to the king on the throne.
Americans Have Not Forgiven the Royals for How Diana Was Treated
Roberts admitted that she is surprised that many Americans have not yet forgiven the royals for how Princess Diana was treated.
She explained that Americans relate to Diana when she held babies infected with Aids and danced with John Travolta at the White House.
Roberts added that Diana embodied the spirit of being carefree and promoting equality, making her as close to an American in the British royal family as possible.
Roberts believes that the Americans’ love for Diana is why many of them hold a grudge against Camilla, who will be referred to as Queen rather than Queen Consort, taking Diana’s place next to the king.
Former Royal Butler Claims Diana Would Be Outshining Everyone
Paul Burrell, former royal butler and footman to the late Queen, claimed that Camilla would be thinking of Diana during her Coronation.
He also insisted that Diana would be “outshining” everyone at the procession and would be looking “glorious.”
In terms of the bad blood between Diana and Camilla, Burrell said he feels as though it would all be water under the bridge for the pair.
He is certain that Diana would have moved on and found true happiness having achieved her life’s goals.
Burrell said that Diana would not have held any animosity towards her ex-husband or towards her ex-husband’s wife.
