The United States’ World Cup participation is concluded.
The USMNT had a couple scoring opportunities early in Saturday’s Round of 16 match against the Netherlands in Qatar, and ultimately scored in the second half, but it was not enough as the Dutch squad outplayed the Americans for the majority of the rest of the match. Netherlands won 3-1.

Netherlands will face the winner of Argentina-Australia, while the U.S. Men’s National Team will return home after suffering a first-round loss for the second time in the previous three World Cups.
At the 10-minute mark, Memphis Depay started the goal for the Netherlands with a clean shot from within the box, and Daley Blind converted a cross from a throw-in during extra time at the conclusion of the first half to give the Dutch team a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Haji Wright scored for the United States in the 75th minute, deflecting a cross from Christian Pulisic over the Dutch goalie to put the Americans on the board and reduce the deficit to one. However, the elation was short-lived.
The Netherlands’ Denzel Dumfries scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute after receiving a pass from Blind while unmarked.
