CNN reports that one of the seven Texas Department of Public Safety officers being probed for their conduct during the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, was recently employed as a school district police officer.
CNN reports that parents in Uvalde are “appalled” by the action.
One of the 376 law enforcement officers who allowed a shooter to barricade himself in a classroom full of students and teachers for 77 minutes, resulting in the deaths of 19 pupils and 2 teachers, is now responsible with protecting their children every day.
As parents brought their children to Uvalde Elementary for the start of the new school year, some of them told CNN that they recognized Elizondo from the body camera footage from the day of the shooting.
“The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District’s (UCISD) decision to hire Officer Crimson Elizondo disgusts and angers us. Her appointment calls into doubt the veracity and completeness of UCISD’s human resources and screening procedures “according to a statement acquired by CNN from family representatives.
CNN stated that the statement adds that all officers being investigated for their conduct during the shooting should be suspended while the probe is ongoing.
In addition, the parents reportedly pushed the district to share the results of the third-party probe to the general public and the victims’ relatives.
“Our children have been abducted. We will continue to fight until we get answers and ensure that the safety of the children in our community is the highest priority “CNN reported that the statement said the following.
The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Uvalde School Board did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
After the district announced at a town hall meeting in August that at least 33 DPS officers would join the district’s security team, the legal guardian of deceased student Uziyah Garcia, Brett Cross, told CNN that Uvalde Superintendent Hal Harrell assured him that any new hires would not be DPS officers who responded to the shooting in May.
Cross told CNN’s Anderson Cooper, “I am completely shocked.”
Cross stated that the school board proposed removing the officials from their positions and assigning them to responsibilities off-campus.
Cross told CNN that he will continue to demonstrate in front of the school board headquarters until all cops under investigation are suspended.
