Veteran Broadcaster tasks journalists to be Vangurd of Anti-Corruption

A Veteran Broadcaster and University Lecturer Madam Eugenia Abu has tasked Journalists in Adamawa to be in the Vanguard of Anti-Corruption campaign by holding public officers accountable in their policies and programmes.

She described the mass media as critical stakeholders in fighting corruption through exposing of related activities for a better society.

Madam Abu was speaking to journalists in Yola after a two-day workshop on ’’Follow the money’’ organised by non-governmental body, Centre for Women and Adolescent Empowerment, Yola in conjunction with the MarcAthur Foundation.

Speaking on how government ownership affects media houses in addressing corruption reporting, Eugenia Abu said there are diplomatic ways of engaging government as the freedom of information act promotes this but balanced with consideration of National Security.

The veteran broadcaster explained that reporting on Anti-Corruption helps accelerate development and raise the welfare of the people hence the need for journalists to find diplomatic way of reporting such deeds in national interest.

She admonished Journalists to live up to their responsibility as watchdog of the society for national development.
