Veteran Kaizer Chiefs defender contemplating departure

In January, a veteran Kaizer Chiefs defender is weighing his options despite loving the club.

The agent of Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabani Dube, Basia Michaels, has revealed that a number of South African premier division clubs are interested in signing the player.

Michaels insists Dube loves the club despite having fallen out of favor with coach Zwane. The former Richards Bay defender made only 16 PSL appearances in 2022-23, and none so far this season.

Michaels told SABC that there is a great deal of conjecture regarding Austin departing the Chiefs during the current January transfer window, whether on loan or permanently.

“We haven’t had any meetings with the club, so I can only assume that they are still interested in retaining him. I can’t do much more than that.”

“I’ve received a number of requests for his services; the question now is whether the Kaizer Chiefs’ management and technical staff are willing to consider it.” I don’t want to put them under undue pressure because Austin enjoys playing for the Chiefs.”

Dube, who is 30 years old, joined the Chiefs in 2021, although he is expected to leave before his current contract expires. During the club’s rebuilding phase, head coach Arthur Zwane prioritizes youngsters.

On Saturday night, the Glamour Boys will face off against the high-flying champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
