Voter verification exercise to end Thursday

Before the August 9 general elections, eligible voters have until Thursday midnight to double-check their registration information.

The verification process began on May 4, 2022, and is still underway in several constituencies to allow eligible voters to check their information.

Eligible voters must visit their registration centers to check their National Identity number, names, and registered polling station, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

By sending their ID/passport number to 70000 or visiting the Commission’s website portal, a voter can also send an SMS to validate their information.

Only 506,190 voters had validated their details as of May 14, 2022, according to IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.

The bulk of the 506,190 verified votes (260, 492) used the online portal, followed by 182,537 voters who used SMS, and another 63, 161 voters who used KIEMS kits.

The Commission plans to release an updated list of voters who confirmed their information before the deadline.
