A tragic incident occurred last week when a Chicago firefighter, Walter Stewart, lost his entire family after their house caught fire.
The fire resulted in the deaths of Stewart’s wife and his three children, all of whom were under the age of 10.
Stewart was not among the first responders to the fire, but when he heard his home address over the radio dispatch, he rushed to the scene and even administered CPR to his wife.
All four of the family members suffered from smoke inhalation and were rescued from the burning house before being rushed to the hospital.
Sadly, the family members succumbed to their injuries on different days. Stewart’s 7-year-old son, Ezra Stewart, died on Wednesday, followed by his wife, Summer Day-Stewart, on Thursday.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office reported that his 9-year-old daughter, Autumn Day-Stewart, and his 2-year-old son, Emory Day-Stewart, passed away on Friday.
The cause of the fire, which started in the kitchen, is under investigation by authorities. In the wake of the tragedy, Stewart has agreed to donate his family members’ organs to others who might need a transplant.
The Chicago Fire Department has also started a fundraiser to assist Stewart’s family and provide support during this difficult time.
The loss of Stewart’s entire family is an unspeakable tragedy, and the Chicago Fire Department has asked people to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers. Flowers have been left at the front of the family’s doorstep to honor the victims.
