According to Rover.com and behavioural & media psychologist Jo Hemmings, spending as little as 30 minutes a week with a dog can make you more successful.
Jo Hemmings explains that seeing the pleasure a dog gets from spending time with us can increase our sense of self-worth and self-esteem, leading us to feel more valued.
Research from Rover indicates that 78% of UK dog owners have increased their self-esteem since caring for a dog.
Additionally, 59% of dog owners reported that the confidence boost extended to the workplace, leading to increased motivation levels (79%) and top-dog work performances.
The study also found that dog owners feel more mindful (84%) and less stressed (75%) since having a dog.
Jo Hemmings suggests that this connection between mindfulness and reduced cortisol levels, as well as an increase in oxytocin and serotonin, equips us to approach life’s obstacles in a calmer, more positive manner.
