William Woods Struggles on the Mound in Mets’ Loss to Nationals

On Tuesday, the New York Mets had a 5-0 exhibition loss to the Nationals at Clover Park.

However, Sam Coonrod, the right-handed pitcher for the Mets, pitched a scoreless seventh inning, maintaining his perfect record this spring.

Coonrod has thrown five scoreless innings over five appearances and recorded seven strikeouts as he competes for a bullpen opening.

William Woods, another right-handed reliever, had a rough outing as he surrendered four earned runs on five hits over 1 ¹/₃ innings.

This performance followed a previous appearance where he pitched two shutout innings.

During the game, Francisco Alvarez, the 21-year-old catcher, had a few mishaps behind the plate, including being charged with a catcher’s interference and a passed ball.

These were both firsts for him this spring.

Looking ahead, on Wednesday, Justin Verlander is scheduled to face the Cardinals at 1:10 p.m. in Port St. Lucie.
