Wingfield, South Australia woman reportedly stabs two children

The cops are ‘very appreciative’ to the hero motorist who disarmed the mother after seeing her reportedly stabbing her children on a major highway.

Monday night, the 35-year-old lady was reportedly armed with a knife and stabbed her three and eight-year-old kids on the North South Motorway at Wingfield, north of Adelaide.

Before police arrived, a witness to the alleged event interfered before two other spectators came in to assist in pinning down the lady.

She said that if this guy hadn’t stopped, the situation would have been lot worse.

“We are incredibly thankful that he stopped and for the two other members of the public who aided him.

We believe he was quite courageous to accomplish this, and we are thrilled that he was in the right location at the right time.

The eight-year-old child required surgery, while the three-year-old child sustained “a lot of stab wounds” and will also have surgery.

The two youngsters were hospitalized for life-threatening injuries after the alleged assault, but are now both stable. The lady was kept at the Royal Adelaide Hospital after her arrest.

She is anticipated to face two charges of attempted murder.

Superintendent Dinning was unable to clarify whether police had contacted the family prior to the alleged incident.

The father of the two children has been contacted by police, and officers will confer with the Department of Child Protection over their care.

It is unknown with whom the youngsters were residing at the time.

Superintendent Dinning said that the sight was “horrific” for first responders and that assistance had been provided.

She said, “We do not know what provoked the occurrence, nor do we know where she (the mother) was going or what she was doing.”

She told The Advertiser, “We don’t know the tenants at all, although police have been there on occasion over the years.”

SA Police are conducting an investigation and urge that any witnesses call Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
