The Brit Awards 2022 (BRITs) were held on Tuesday 8 February at the O2 Arena in London.
For the first time, The BRITs had no female and male categories, previously highlighting that the decision was made to make the awards as inclusive as possible.
Rapper, singer and actress Simbiatu “Simbi” Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, better known by her stage name Little Simz, was nominated for four BRIT awards: Artist of the Year, Best Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act, Album of the Year and Best New Act.
The 27-year-old artist won Best New Act over other rising British artists Central Cee, Griff, Joy Crookes and Self Esteem.
When her name was announced, her mom jumped up with joy and walked onto the stage with her.
“Looking at what you’ve done mom,” said Little Simz in her acceptance speech. “To be here tonight receiving this award is such a blessing. I’m so grateful.”
