World Baseball Classic celebration turns into nightmare for Mets’ Edwin Diaz

Fox Sports captured the moment when the New York Mets’ all-world closer Edwin Diaz injured his right knee in the celebration after closing out Puerto Rico’s 5-2 win over the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic quarterfinals.

Diaz was transferred to a wheelchair and received medical attention.

It is unclear when he will be seen demonstrating his mastery on the mound again. The Mets say Diaz will undergo testing on the knee on Thursday.

Teammate Francisco Lindor knows what a serious injury would mean for the Mets’ World Series hopes in Queens.

Diaz’s injury is a reminder of the kind of thing that gets celebrated in the World Baseball Classic. In other sports news, the NCAA tournament has started, with No. 8 Maryland and No. 9 West Virginia playing.

The greatest postseason in sports is officially underway. For the first time since 2016, the St. John’s women’s basketball team will play in the NCAA tournament.

The New York Jets have acquired Aaron Rodgers, and the pressure is on him to deliver a Lombardi Trophy to 1 Jets Drive.
