Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the owners of Wrexham AFC, have a lot to celebrate as their team secured the National League title in a dramatic victory over Boreham Wood.
The win means that Wrexham, who have not played in the Football League for 15 years, cannot be caught with one game left to play.
The team’s success is all the more impressive considering that Reynolds and McElhenney only took over the club in February of this year.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper and YouTuber, Ben Foster, has been instrumental in getting Wrexham over the line.
The 40-year-old came out of retirement to help solve the team’s goalkeeping crisis and has played a crucial role in their title-winning campaign.
Although he only signed a contract until the end of the season, Foster indicated in a conversation with Reynolds that he is ready to sign on for next season as well.
Reynolds was thrilled with Foster’s commitment and, in a conversation that was broadcast on Foster’s own Cycling Goalkeeper show, joked that he had signed a verbal contract.
Foster, in an interview later on, confirmed that he was seriously considering extending his playing career and continuing to be a part of Wrexham.
He spoke about how special the club is and how passionate the fans are, saying that if you live in Wrexham, you are a Wrexham fan.
He also talked about the lack of ego in the dressing room, which he found refreshing after playing for other clubs with more big-time players.
Foster’s return to football has been a great success, and it seems likely that he will be back between the posts for Wrexham next season.
