The ball bounced past Cal Mitchell, an outfielder, and scored two runs for the Yankees.

However, the game was not without its faults. Jimmy Cordero, Wandy Peralta, Albert Abreu, and Demarcus Evans, all relievers, combined to allow nine runs in just 2 and 2/3 innings. Peralta gave up a home run to Drew Maggi and failed to record an out, while Abreu and Evans also struggled.

Former Yankee Miguel Andujar caught the attention of viewers in the sixth inning

. He drove a ball to the centre, causing Oswaldo Cabrera, trying to prove he could play centre field, to initially break in.

Cabrera then reversed his direction and sprinted back, but the ball was just out of reach, resulting in a double.

Looking ahead, the Yankees are scheduled to play against the Tigers in Lakeland, Florida on Friday at 1:05 p.m.

Domingo German is expected to start, while Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be playing centre field.
